Not always is it neccessary to lug your super-tele-zoom around to make interesting shoots of "wildlife". Especially when the wildlife is not so shy as to run/fly away immediately.

"War of the Sparrows"
I held the camera freely as close as I could get without chasing the sparrows away. Did not look through the viewfinder, as the close proximity of my body/head would have surely irritated them. Let the cam take care of the rest. And naturely shot a series to get at least one good picture. You can see the shadow of the cam+lens on the table...
So don't wait for your next tele lens - just go happily shooting what creeps and flutters around you
