Thanks Jiko. This was taken at a local reserve.
Originally from Asia, but there are quite a few living in the wild & breeding now, since escaping from private collections many years ago.

Catching up on some recent ducks down this way...these with my new A580 camera.

First, an ugly weather day - overcast and mucky light - some black bellied whistling ducks:

Nicer day...the sun came out. A mottled duck:

Blue winged teal:

Pied-billed grebe (my faux duck):

Low light, ISO1600 needed - egyptian geese flying at sunset:

Mottled duck:

And just to throw in a few different ones for me...here's a sweep panorama I did with my NEX3 of snow geese gathering in Saguenay, Quebec last month:

And my first-ever spotting of a loon, in Bar Harbor, Maine:

Very nice shots, but the egyptian geese in flight pic is wonderful! I love the lines of the BG. 8)

Definitely has muscovy traits, if not fully blown. Dunno what juvenile ones look like, or if that could be a cross.

Thanks, guys. Muscovy seems to be correct, but some googling makes me think it's juvenile or cross as you suggest, popo

No, I can't hold the compact vertical for portrait shots.

Image
Nor for landscape shots either it appears...

Image
How close can I get? (There was contact with camera. multiple times...)

Image
Eat me...

All shots unedited apart from resizing from HX9V. The 1st two shots I didn't get level were with camera held far below my visible range so I can get a lower angle shot. There's water on the lens front too causing the flare-like stuff.

The mandarin duck is back. Didn't see it last time I was at the park, but was there the time before that again.

A few from october... trying to get caught up on my photos without much luck however....

Some geese... all taken from a blind

Image

Image

Snow Geese have a huge threat zone so to get a pic this close was a bonus...

Image

And a few ducks... also shot from a blind. Looking at these now I wish I would have placed the blind closer to the ground for a slightly better angle.

I love the reflection on the water of the butt end of this guy.

Nice to see the northern ducks still making the rounds! Our southern ducks are starting to fill up down here.

Love the geese - but don't get to see many of the Canadian ones down here. Nice water reflection and light, Wolf, on those ducks.

Some more Geese from October... all shot from a blind again.

Fly-over

Image

A few landings...

Fly me over the moon... I was fully aware of the moon that morning and waited as flock after flock flew over but not near the moon. About 50 minutes later and dozens of flocks of Geese these guys cooperated.
