Camera Labs

I came upon a rather large nest of these orb weavers. While I hate spiders with a passion, they make for great pictures. I kept my distance, for fear of them jumping off their webs and attacking my face, so I threw on my 55-250 and got as close with it as I dared. One of them was in the middle of lunch...I think it may be a beetle? Not sure. Enjoy!

PS...I know they won't attack me, and they're harmless and all that. Nevertheless, I'd rather be safe than sorry

Inspite of the discomfort you have from spiders, I feel you have done nice shots here.
Again it is a personal view, to me the framing for the first photo would have been better with the violet/bluish back ground excluded and framed and with the spider much to the left. But that's my view.

Great photos! I love spiders, but I actually fear them as you do, probably not as much, but I still fear them. But anyways, as you said, they do make some awesome photos

As much as most PPL hate spiders, they eat other insects. I.E. roaches. They won't eat you, silly.

In NZ we have nothing that really wants to eat/mate with you but the spiders here are little bstards. They are black house spiders ..now ok they are harmless but they have an interesting set of defense mechanisms that make trying to catch the little buggers a nightmare. A really bad nightmare for anyone who hates spiders..like me..

They run...really quickly

They can run sideways....really quickly

And they jump.....straight at you. In the hope that you jump away and in the shock second they run in a different direction.. that really puts the beejeebies up you.

We do have one spider that will give you a nasty nip.. its called a white tip and dependent upon what he has been eating lately a bite from him can cause necrosis. nice.

I just looked those black house spiders up....if I saw one of those running around my floor, I'd jump on the table and scream like a little girl!

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated! I didn't even really notice those purple spots in the first picture, but now that I do I agree with you Jagadish. I don't realize it as much while I'm out snapping shots, but once I get back to my computer and examine them, I notice that I center my subjects way too often. Eventually I'll break the habit, with more experience...hopefully

Nice shots adam. I've tried to photograph spiders several times with no luck. I just cant seem to get a good shot/composition.
