Has anyone tried to photograph Squirrels? these little buggers are HARD to capture. i've spent the past few days trying, but 99% of my pics are too blurry. Any suggestions on how to take photos of fast moving critters?

not sure if this picture will show up, i still havent learned how to post pictures on Forums yet.

Thanks,

Hi 45B30,

The string you want to use is this:

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/21038859@N08/2043517838/][img]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2097/2043517838_afad1eabfa.jpg[/img][/url]

Note that no extra spaces or carriage returns should be inserted and, of course, BBCode must be enabled.

You will see that the [url=] [/url] tags enclose [img] [/img] tags instead of text. That makes your image clickable. The JPEG I selected is a suitably sized thumbnail from your Flickr gallery whilst the URL points to the "front page" for the photo in question.

I'll post the result next...

Bob.

Hi 45B30,

Don't get disheartened! I'll try and explain what's happening but to do so I have turned OFF BBCode in this post.

There are separate things going on here. To display a JPEG you just enclose the full path by the [img] and [/img] tags

[img]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2097/2043517838_afad1eabfa.jpg[/img]

The path enclosed by the [img] [/img] tags has to be to a picture, NOT to a web page containing a picture. If all you want to do is display an image that is enough. To make an image "clickable" we need to step back one and consider how we get a hyperlink to display. That is done by enclosing the URL with [url] and [/url] like so

[url]http://www.flickr.com/photos/21038859@N08/2043517838/[/url]

The trouble is that though http://www.flickr.com/photos/21038859@N08/2043517838/ is displayed as a hyperlink it doesn't look pretty. To do that we use the [url=...] coupled with the [/url] tag like so:

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/21038859@N08/2043517838/]Some descriptive text[/url]. Now when the post is displayed instead of seeing the URL we get the text "Some descriptive text" displayed as a hyperlink.

The final key to the puzzle is to realise that it doesn't HAVE to be text that is the hyperlink. If we replace "Some descriptive text" by the "[img]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2097/2043517838_afad1eabfa.jpg[/img]" string used to display an image then the image itself becomes the hyperlink. Hence the final result is;

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/21038859@N08/2043517838/][img]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2097/2043517838_afad1eabfa.jpg[/img][/url]

Hi 45B30

Looks good at first glance, was it a crop ?
Properties from flickr only mentioned iso400 300mm at 1/50sec and f/5.6 and 75-300mm lenses ?
Personally not an expert and still learning but Kind of a tad long on the shutter dont you think ?

HI,
No this wasnt croped or edited, it is one of the few that came out. I have many others that i didnt post on Flickr, due to my limited amount of space there.

i think you may be right about the long shutter, but i like getting right up close to my target. i was laying on the ground about 10 feet or so away. i have a couple shots where this squirrel ran right up to my feet...expecting a treat or something.

thanks,

Squirrels? Funny you should mention that, I was at the park just a few days ago.

These guys can be very illusive where I live (California). Here, even the ones in the park are quite shy. However, if you sit in one place and there aren't too many people around they will come out and go about their business. These shots were taken at ISO 800, anything less and there's too much blur since they are always moving. And of course good light is critical as well. D50, 70-300mm VR

BrianS what area in San Francisco are you from? Im from redwood city to be exact, but love venturing to the city's parks.

i see the same squirrel at least 5 times a day trying to get at my moms bird feeder. It's supposed to stop the squirrels from eating the seeds but they are quite smart.

You should remove the "?v=0" at the end of the URL in order for it to show your picture. :wink:

It should be like this:

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/244/3264 ... ba373a.jpg

between the [ img] and the [/ img] tags :wink:
