Last weekend I got myself a Canon 500D and its a lovely piece of kit, and my first (D)SLR camera ever. These were the first shots I took with it, so I am still getting used to controls and setup etc.

Any comments on anything would be great! I've been taking photos with a P+S for years, but this is my first time with anything with manual controls :)

tomacwhite,

Looks to me you are off to a great start.
Any plans for chasing outdoor critters?

Yeah definitely. We are going out for a nice long walk this coming weekend, so hopefully I'll get to see some ducks/swans at the very least!

Good job on capturing black cats features! I have a predominately black cat with white patches myself, and the photos of him invariably end up with no detail in the face as the camera exposes for the white bits and light surroundings..

One thing I would suggest though would be to adjust the white balance in an image editing package, so as to remove the slight yellow cast caused by artificial lighting.

Other than that though, great first efforts!

Thanks for the advice :) I have Photoshop CS2 on my computer at work so will have a play around with white balance there.
