Just got back... great morning out, worth getting up early for!
I left home just after 6am. The weather seemed promising as the forecast was rain, it wasn't falling at the time. That didn't last long, rain and patchy fog came in quickly and stuck around. This made the last part of the drive rather exciting as it was narrow twisty country lanes.
Found the site easily enough and met up with the staff and others. Including myself, there were 6 visitors and two staff went on the safari. The rain held back a bit, so we moved out on foot as the light was increasing. There were various birds in the trees that were spooked by us walking around. We went around parts of the perimeter of the fenced off area, but the deer were all hiding on the far side. The walk was cut short and we went on a tractor ride. This towed a covered trailer into the deer field, and we went around stopping by the various groups of deer. Some were tamer than others, and came right up. I was practically rubbing noses with one of them that took a particular interest in me, and some others could be hand fed. This ride took just over an hour or so.
As you can imagine, starting before sunrise, not that we could see the sun for the rain, the light was almost non existent until late in the morning. I started at ISO12800 1/160s (at 400mm) and even that wasn't enough. Around 8:30am I dropped to ISO1600, perhaps still a bit too early with hindsight. Light was getting decent as we started heading back.
At the end of the ride we walked past their duck pond. Need I say more?
I took around 1000 shots. Quite a few were bad due to motion blur - both from myself and subject movement from the long shutter used. Pics to follow later.
