I just stick my D40 onto a tripod and into Aperture mode and do a few test shots
starting at about f12, see how it looks and make any changes i need to.

A tripod is invaluable. Yeah i do have the non Apo version and i find it excellent,
took me a little bit of time to find the right settings to use to get the best out of it.
I too have read soooo many reviews about it my head was spinning, i didn't know
what to think but i'm glad bought it's a great addition to my kit, in fact it's the lens i use most now.

Jay

PS-- if you don't have a tripod yet you could always make yourself a small beanbag or use a pillow
to rest your cam/lens on to eliminate some of the camera shake.

thanks jay to tell you the truth my sigma has been on all the time, the kit lense has not come out of the box as i had to replace(loads of dust in view finder) my a200, so when i got that back i stuck the sigma on and that was that. good point i have used a rucksack before now for support and that seemed to work ok
