Not a great pic by any means but my first Mulies of the year... I'm seeing less and less of these every year. Shot was taken at about 400 meters.

Was working on the second pic a bit today when I noticed a Purple Prairie Crocus just in front of the knee of the bent leg. These are considered the harbingers of spring up here... they are not out for long. Last year they were out 4 weeks earlier than this and in a later state of bloom than this one is.... talk about a late spring!

my first ever sighting of a prairie swamp donkey a.k.a. Moose. Ppl have told me the exist in numbers and there is even a hunting season for them but I have never been lucky enough to run into one out here. Seen them in every boreal forest I have ever lived near or visited but never in open prairie... the pics were taken right around 12 noon which makes it even stranger for me as I'm used to seeing them at sun-up and that is it... it totally ignored me in my car as it happly trotted along its way...

Haha swamp donkey! Hadn't heard that one before. Can you use the excuse "I was late to work because there was a moose in my driveway" like we can in Anchorage?

Out here the excuse is "I hit a Deer". Last year I had 4 associates tell me that when they were late for work.

Only thing that has ever delayed me for any length of time was a herd of Bison up in your neck of the woods Mike... I was in the Yukon on the Alaska highway heading up to Tuktoyaktuk. They held up traffic for a good 30 minutes.

We have a local baseball team out here called the Swamp Donkeys. Their uniforms have a Moose on the front

Great shot Dete, the sun set/rise sets her off nicely in red.
Deer are hiding out here and there are reports of first fawns of the year being seen.

Wolf, I can see me breaking out my camo to see just how close I can get. I have a few travel corridors in mind. I also might be breaking out a treestand to see what that perspective adds/subtracts to the photo.
