went back out to where I found some deer yesterday... found a lot more today but only got 3 keepers...

Image

and 2 on their beds.. first one was easy to shoot... second one was in such a dense thicket had to resort to manual focus.

Looking healthy.
We just got about that much snow the last storm going to take a bit for them to get new trails made.
I see the odd trail around and they are draggin bellies in a few spots not many down below but up here on the mntn for sure.

they've had an easy winter here so far... hardly no snow and above average temps by far.... got a lot of snow for here last week and temps have dropped drastically this week.. as I write this the temp outside is minus 52 below with the wind chill... supposed to warm up again by the weekend though. Temps have been a real rollercoaster ride here of late... 3 days ago we hit zero.

Saskatoon Saskatchewan.. and ya.. they have had a very mild winter this year for up here. if you look at the first pic in my last post you can actually see bare ground in a spot behind the deer... we had 3 days of 0 to +1 up here... still the same now but gonna drop to -20 or so later in the week at night.. even that is still good though for this time of year.

I recall the winters in Germany and yes zero or below can be pleasant, certainly better than 5c and wet and windy which is what we can get here. The wet and wind makes it worse than just cold.
Was 28c on the squash court last night, bit warm for running around. :)

Looks like an interesting place just had a look on Wikipedia.

I am 2 hours east of Melbourne. We get Hog, Samba and Red deer up here in the bush, but they were all introduced. A bit hard to find for the casual photographer as they get hunted a lot and you need to be out early or late in the day. Basically it means an overnight trip camping taking a fourwheel drive

sun poked out this morning so figured I'd get out for an hour or so before work... I'm right on the edge of town so 3 minutes from my front door and I'm in farm land... 15 minutes out and I'm in the country... its pretty easy for me to get out when the weather is nice for an hour or 2 every morning before work... kinda early for them to be herding up but cant blame em seeing the weather... litterally 3 minutes after I snapped these it clouded over so with nothing better to do it was off to work. Distance was about 100 meters so it was a pretty casual encounter. Checked out the area a bit closer after they left... too narrow a trail for human traffic...Talk about a high traffic deer trail  All really healthy looking so of the deer I have seen of late looks like they are havin a good winter to date. 14 animals in this small gathering from what I counted.

maybe it is just me but for the last few weeks I have been noticing that pics uploaded to flickr and then posted here are not as sharp as they are here at home. Either that or I'm going blind...

Nicely done Wolf.

As for the sharpness, I can't say that i really notice any difference on my end. Perhaps age has caught up to you. :P lol

Notice the chewing at the base of that tree?
Wonder whats been after that?
Kind of short and low for a rub...Porcupine,or rabbit maybe?
Great "sharp" shots looks like a honey hole especially if it is close to home.

I don't think hunting is the cause of the early or late thats just the optimal time to catch most of the bigger game travelling.
Sounds like an awesome weekend getaway to me
