it really was an awesome moment... a split second after this he calmly put it down and placed a paw on it then gave it one bite from which you heard an audible "pop" noise. When he picked up the bird again and ran off there was blood and a few entrails everywhere from the one bite. This all happened within firing off a 14 frame burst so taking into account a split second for me to start firing off shots after the initial shock of seeing him the encounter lasted at most 4 seconds before he was gone behind the snow bank.. and as I said this was only one of a handful of times when I never even thought of getting out of the car for more or better pics if he had stopped close by.... With the size of him that bird was nothing more than a snack and I sure didnt want to become the main course.

Stunning pic wolfsong. I guess we would all have liked to have taken that one. From inside the car. If you find another one you could try for the assignment this month! Wonderful skill.

Wolfsong, GREAT picture of one of my all-time favorite animals! What an amazing situation, and you got the shot to show for it too! That'll be a hard one to top!

Adding one here, but this one is recovering at the sanctuary, so I don't have a great story and the picture is not as good. But they ARE beautiful animals, aren't they?
