Evening all...

I'm trying to perfect my macro-flower technique and am struggling so was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers?

I've take about a hundred photos of these pink flowers this afternoon, trying to work out which settings to use. I have a Canon Powershot G9 and the two top photos were taken with f/4.5, 1/15 sec shutter speed, ISO 80 and 7 mm focal length. The bottom photo was almost the same settings but an exposure time of 1/25 sec. Most of the photos I've taken are just too bright so I tried turning the flash down to the minimum but that doesn't seem to make much difference. I've fiddled around with all the settings and changed everything one at a time, but no luck! Out of the hundred photos I've taken, only the first one on here has got decent lighting and looks great (in my opinion, at least!). I've processed the top photo a bit, but the lighting and position of everything was much better than the other shots anyway.

I pinched the idea for the setup from another poster (sorry, I can't remember the name) and put the flowers in front of a white piece of paper which was against the window. I've got various lights on and positioned around the room trying to get the lighting right but I don't understand what to do.

Sorry for being such noob but I would really like some advice and would love to understand how to get the position, lighting and settings right for these types of photos...

TIA

EDIT: Have changed the size of the pictures. Hope that's better now? xx

Hi,

Any chance you could link to some smaller photos?? It's hard to get an idea of the whole pic.
