I had to invest a little, but buying stuff from the hardware store and not photographic products to build a small home photo studio is a very interesting alternative.

You need a little creativity and then several photos to fine tune your setup. These photos are not perfect but it's because I'm a little lazy to repeat my shots. I think that if I work some more on the lighting I can get better results.

Check them out. Comments are most welcome.

1/15 @ 30mm f4 Manual Exposure ISO100 + Tripod- You can see reflection and that's a flaw, but I like colors.

1/250 @ 30mm f4.5 Manual Exposure w/flash ISO100 + Tripod- This was a fun one to shoot without a trigger to activate the flash. I had to repeat this shot until I got the ramplug they way I wanted.

1/15 @ 65mm f5 Manual Exposure ISO100 + Tripod - This is a re-creation of one photo I saw not so long ago. I though it would be interesting to do it myself and it was. You have to work the light until you have no cross contamination and full saturation.

Image

1/200 @ 28mm f4 Manual Exposure ISO 100 + Tripod - A nice macro flower with not macro lens. I used acro adapters as cheap as $30 to shoot them all.

I also used 2 color lamps (red, blue), carton board with vegetable translucent paper, orange soda and blue ramplugs. Total spent: $90.

Cheers

Great shots, I like the colours!

Any chance of a few photos of your setup?

Yeap, I'll take a photo of my setup and show it here. It's pretty simple though, so don't expect fancy stuff  :)

About the glass and the blue stuff, it is a nylon fixing plug or ramplug. In other words, is a piece of blue plastic.

Cheers

Two colour garden lamps (red and blue), 2 daylight lamps, grey carton board (very thin), orange soda and those blue fixing ram plugs. About $90.

Cheers
