Hi Thomas, lovely shot!

I'm curious though, how is the quality on the 105mm lens affected when you stop it down so far? I presume diffraction becomes an issue, although then again, I suppose it is designed for this sort of thing...

If you measure it , you can certainly prove the effect, like Klaus Schroiff did here (up to f32 more than halves the resolution).
In "real" photography it's much harder to spot. Compare for yourself (f5.6=left vs. f22=right):
