These are the only surviving photons from a shot seriously gone bad. There were some contact problems between the D300 body and the Nikon 70-200/2.8 VRII (+Canon 500D) lens: auto-focus failed, image stabilization was dead and exposure running havoc. But as the creature was running away I kept on shooting only to realize afterwards that the shots were
all BLACK.

Mind you the shot was made in
full sunlight. The camera thought it was 1/1000 sec and f8.0 (EXIF data) but the image was underexposed more than 5 stops
I just pulled about every lever in Lightroom 3 but exposure comp was limited to 4 stops. So I pulled some curves too, had to heavily suppress noise etc.
Still, I'd say: Eerie but interesting!
