Post subject: Macro on a tight budget
PostPosted: Fri Sep 28, 2007 2:42 am
Since i spent most of my money on my camera, i do not have the budget for a dedicated macro lens for my D80, so i was thinking of getting my hands on an old lens and mounting it with a reversing ring, will i need to get a Nikkor lens or can i use any canon, sigma etc? I dont really want to use close up filters as they degrade IQ.

With a revers ring no auto-function works so it is totally irrelevant what lens you put on the other end of the ring. My only suggestion would be to take a large aperture lens, like a standard (used) 50mm/f1.8. You probably know that the effective apperture degrades pretty fast when upping the magnification: at 1:1 you already lose 2 stops  :!:
