Sorry if this is a stupid question, but here goes...

I just recently experimented with reverse mounting my 50mm 1.8 on my D90. No problem there. I understand about manually setting the aperture, losing autofocus, all that jazz.

What I am unsure of is why my flash would not work? I had the camera in Manual mode, and manually popped up the flash, but it did not fire when releasing the shutter. Do you have to change flash modes (take it out of TTL) in order for it to work?

I'm away from my camera so I can't fiddle with it right now. I was hoping someone would know the answer off the top of their head.

Thanks!

Hello thachman, and welcome to the friendly Camera Labs forum!

I tried to shoot with my D300 w/o lens with the flash popped up: it worked.
So you should try different flash settings, or exposure settings (mine was at aperture priority). As the camera does not know which aperture is set it might come to the conclusion that the shutter is too fast for using flash. I tried it near dark...

The D90 is a lot more picky about how it's being used, so I can totally imagine it will not fire the flash if it doesn't detect a lens. Perhaps manual mode flash will work, but beware you might get a shadow from the lens!
