What light setup do you use for your shots? external flash balanced with natural light?
Ola,
for sunny days I bring a
Lastolite Diffuser, a
California Sunbounce Micro Mini reflector (silver/white) and one
SB-900 flash unit with either a remote trigger or a TTL cord.
The setup then depends on the ambient light. Harsh sunlight usually gets diffused, since it's ugly and it introduces too much contrast. Often I bring in some nice light from the reflector and that's enough. Else I either mount the flash unit on the reflector using an extension arm or I build a simple two-light setup with the flash as main light and the reflector as fill.
What's most important to me is the background. Soft green bokeh from leaves or grass usually does the job. I meter -1/3 EV on the background by the way, so it doesn't get underexposed. The flash usually is at 1/128th to 1/64th of it's output power and diffused in most cases. I am not a huge fan of flash, but sometimes it necessary to bring in more light.
On cloudy days things get much easier. The soft ambient light and a reflector is pretty much all that's needed. Else I boost the light with the flash.
