I did my first maternity shoot yesterday. I tried experimenting with a book as a prop. I'm curious if you think it works, or does it detract from the belly?

Well to be brutally honest, the sepia/black and white doesn't do it for me. Nor does the book, which seems to be more of a focal point than anything else, which it shouldnt be.

I know the majority of artistic maternity photos include the lady with the belly showing, and a bit of nudity, but other than that I'm not sure where you want to go with this.

i like it :D

although i agree with everyone else that it doesnt necessarily represent a maternity/pregnancy shot.. now if she had a baby in her hands reading the book.. i think it would be a lot better. but it seems she hasnt had her baby yet.. so your out of luck... unless you go to the hospital and steal a baby :D

Hmm, VERY tempting!! Hee hee hee.

As I was looking over the shoot again, I actually took one similar to this one, but at a different angle so the belly was much more prominent. I liked it better.

Thanks to all for the feedback! I really appreciate it.
