Recently I have been trying to experiment as much as possible - well you don't learn unless you try ;)

Decided to try my hand at self portraiture and also at the same time layering, I set out to create a moody / grungy look for this image and hope I pulled it off to some degree, layering is definitely something I will be looking to explore in more depth in the coming months and I will go out with shooting some textures and backgrounds in mind.

CC welcome as always

ETA: Actually I forgot to say, I did this with closed curtains trying to get a soft feel to the image, it was shot at f/6.7 and for a whole EIGHT seconds :)

I like it. I would have liked to see a little more of the face, but its a detail. Really nice work imo.

mark, I love the feel of this photo. I am really into repeating patterns..
I would love to see the curve of your face which so beautifully is repeated in the curve of the guitar..just a bit lighter..So a teensy bit lighter version of this (as long as it does not disturb the moodiness of the shot)..maybe just one notch lighter...would be something to play with. Love the composition. Great job.

Hi Mark,

This is an interesting shot. (I'm very impressed that you could stay that still for a full 8 seconds!) I like the mood, but I have to agree that the layers should be lightened a bit, though.

I'm trying to figure out how to say this next sentence a bit delicately...um, might I recommend next time you angle your body or leg a bit so that we aren't looking staring directly at your crotch. Just my opinion. (I really hope I didn't just embarrass you).

Keep up the good work.

Thanks all,

Yeah the equipment is a Marshall retro valve amp makes a gorgeous sound although one of the pots is fault and hisses now so it needs a slight repair. The Axe is a Kramer van Halen model - early original worth a small fortune now so I am told but will try and find out from one of the local music stores (only out of interest though as I would never sell it it's too precious and brings back memories of my band days :p)

Naeno, you should not be looking, that area is reserved for the groupies LOL
