So I just got 2 paper roll backgronds for Christmas - now I'm looking for a way to use it. I found this on B&H:

Now, it would be cheaper for me to buy two of these:

...and use a curtan rod as the cross bar. I have one lying around the house. I'm pretty machine shop savvy, so I could make the mounts eaisy enough - plus, I can use it as a light stand if I want, multi purpose. Am I missing something there, is there any inadvisable about this?

I have had no experience with those support systems but I do have the Lastolite Heavy Duty Support. I have been very impressed with this and it is very stable.

It is quite expensive but this is one of those items that you really get what you pay for.

You can use the light stands you showed in the second link however you will need to purchase a couple of Super clamps to attach any type of pole to hang your seamless on. Here is a link to what I mean.

in the end.. the first option may be your cheapest. I use a product that isn't for photography but is for hanging curtains up at trade shows. It's a tough but lightweight aluminum.
