The first one has great atmosphere. If you could fix the very bright highlights in the top right it would be perfect.

Aahh the typical southeast asian life pace.. I surely miss it..

Nice work you have here..

Just a bit comment, maybe in other occasion when you out in the street try to vary your angle. Try to mix between wide angle, standard, and telephoto. Just to add the dynamic when you present it to the public.

I loved all the photos, the one i care less is the last one, a bit static, and it's color pic.

I really love B&W portraits, there are just a few kind of portraits that i like to see in color.

But i really loved all your B&W photos, they are amazing.
The first one is a award winning picture. Great Job

I would remove the last one as it does not fit in with the real life B&W images.

Can I ask what settings you used?

Also what post processing have you done if any?

I am interested especially in that first shot, it looks quite dark and moody yet the people are very sharp, did you create that atmosphere with post processing or is that how the image came out? If that is how it came out how do you achieve that lighting?

Sorry so many questions, but these are photos I would like to try and make....

It appears B&W is getting more popular on the forum, although the shots may be technically good, I feel in this case they miss the vibrancy that colour would bring out in that location.

There's something about the place that lends itself to b&w, IMO. No tthat colour isn't the way to go either, but there's a timelessness about the country that can come out well in b&w.

Thanks for your opinions everyone. I understand what you're saying about colour & B&W. To be honest, many of my street or candid shots lack impact when in colour - that's probably a limitation of my fotog skills more than anything else. There's something about B&W for me that carries a much heavier mood, especially in Vietnam as Phil suggested.

You can see how muddy it looks. Sunlight was mostly from the right of frame and the kitchen was unlit and shaded by a tin roof.

iirc, after the conversion, I played around with contrast and clarity on LR3 and did a bit of burning here & there - especially the faces which needed lightening. In fact, I have to lighten almost all Vietnamese faces as they're often heavily shaded from the sun.

I then applied a bit of post-crop vignette. Possibly a few other bits & fiddling, but that's about it.

I did try rotating the image, but you can see that the kitchen floor is sloped, so it was a balance between wonky shelves or wonky walls.
