Darth, pardon my frank comment here, but the post-processing looks Bad.
Let me be clear: I think you have a great moment captured in your photograph, but your... technique... has buried that moment under a bunch of Photoshop "crud". Just because you can edit something in a funky way doesn't mean you should. I was replying to your Glamour Shot thread but my iPhone ate the post - I was saying that the processing was overdone in that photo and that it took away from the overall image (although not to the same extent as here).
Mom may like it, but she's going to love most any photo of her kids - Photoshop or not.
Can you post an un-processed version here? Don't get caught up in using a "technique" to make your photos stronger... Often subtle processing does more for a photo than heavy-handed types.
