Recommendations on some primes for portrait work? (besides 50mm 1.



I decided to sell the 3 of 4 lenses i have and upgrade... I have a few thousand put away to purchase lenses in 2 years... however IF i sell these 3 lenses I will use the money to purchase a prime or two.

I hear the Nikkor 60mm F2.8 and the 85mm 1.8 are highly spoken of. Just keep in mind the crop factor of your D90 which I believe is 1.5X making the 60mm really a 90mm and the 85mm a 127mm. I am not a Nikon shooter but some of my friends use these lenses.

Did you mean 50mm F1.8? I've made that mistake before, writing 1.8 with a bracket next to it, making it F1.

Anyways, what about the 35mm F1.8? That's always a nice one that every photographer deserves. I also know that Voigtlaender makes some VERY nice and sharp primes for around $500 I reckon, check it out here.

Or, consider some old AI or AI-S film lenses, they REALLY are great and they sell for cheap! Check out eBay.

85mm f1.4D, and 105/135mm f2 DC lenses. All three are very well spoken of amongst portrait photogs and bokeh lovers, all three are considered to have the most beautiful creamy bokeh rendering in nikon line-up. They are all pricey though, so look for second hand ones.
That 85mm is hopefully on my shopping list next summer. Or maybe used 135mm DC, but that is too long on asp-c.
