Photomatix is far and away the best for HDR. Artizen is also good but results can be patchy. I'm not using the Photomatix plug-in though, just the full program itself. I might try the plug-in in future though.

Did I mention Nik Color Efex? Ah, thought so. Don't take my word for it, try it out and wonder at how you managed it all before. As for Lightroom, a waste of space for me (quite literally). What annoys me especially about it is the inability to edit locally. This to my mind is pointless.
