Greetings,

maybe I'm distantly related to moths, but I felt compelled to take these shots of a snow covered park-scape tonight. There's something about snow and sodium vapor lights that I find oddly attractive.

These are my first ever night photos (never could afford the old ASA1000 films back in the day!) so bear with me :-)

Image
Exposure Time = 8 seconds
F Number = F16
ISO Speed Ratings = 800
Exposure Bias Value = -0.67EV

Image
Exposure Time = 3 seconds
F Number = F4.2
ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Exposure Bias Value = -0.67EV

Image
Exposure Time = 6 seconds
F Number = F9
ISO Speed Ratings = 800
Exposure Bias Value = -0.67EV

Image
Exposure Time = 4 seconds
F Number = F4.5
ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Exposure Bias Value = -0.67EV

Nikon D40, kit lens, tripod and a pair of gloves! (brrrr)
Downrezzed with Photozoom 2.0 Pro and the last two have been lightly compositionally cropped.

Cheers :-)

Nice photos LahLahSr! The first one has a "spooky" feel to it. :)

That first photo looks like something from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

What's causing the sodium vapor?

Nice shots. Good to see that sodium vapour street lights are good for some. For astrophotography they are the pits.

Bob.

Yeah, I like them too - like Bob, I have an instant negative gut reaction to the colour of sodium lights on photos, but they look good here, especially the first one... have you tried any of them in black and white?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It was fun to do.

Gordon - good idea. Will try to see how that looks.

Cheers :-)

love it, Lah...it looks so surreal...like you should be afraid, very afraid, but you can't quite NOT look...like the space ship just landed...

I love this set Lahlahsr there is something beautifully atmospheric about them.

If you watch long enough on the third one I am sure some little gargoyle will morph from those snow hidden shrubs/bushes.

Cheers Ormina
