Hello everyone.
Over the summer I've been experimenting with astro photography from my back garden. Here is the fruits of my labour ( and the best one I managed ) I've reduced the amber glow of my local town, enhanced the milky way.

It was taken with a single 30" exposure on my new 5D classic combined with my 17-40 lens.

Image

I've entered it into a competition on facebook where the most likes at the end competition wins. :)
(the competition is being run by a ski company, so they're increasing their social media presence with this competition.)

Would it be ok to post the facebook link for people to like it or is that a breach of the rules ?

Many thanks !
Tom

p.s - I've posted it in under landscapes as I felt that even though the main focus is of the sky that the fore-ground made it more landscape than pure Astro-photography !

Hi Tom,

A stunning image!

By all means link to your Facebook page. We have a zero-tolerance attitude to Spam here but the interconnectedness of the web is what it's all about, especially if you have the opportunity to link but to the Cameralabs site occasionally. 8)

Bob.

Cheers Bob, like all "like" to win competitions it turned from a photography competition into a popularity competition :? I accumalated around 200 'likes' with the winner achieving around 300 ! I felt very demoralized since the 'winning' photo was a snap of the ski logo with the pyramid stage from Glastonbury in the background, but through spamming her friends saying please like my photo she wont :x . Oh well, lots of friends have complemented me on my entry so that's something !

Wow! I've been trying to capture the night sky myself with very little success. I hope one night to get something like this.

Amazing shot! The detail in the Milky Way is impressive. Did you light up the foreground intentionally? Great job, this is really good :)
