Natural Arch at Springbrook National Park New Photos

Thanks for the suggestions below. I went back on a showery/cloudy day and took some bracketing shots from 0.5EV to 2EV in 0.5 steps. I set the focus point just outside of the cave f8, @18mm, I'm not sure if this was the right thing to do here.

I ended up using only the -2EV shot and did some minor adjustments in elements. I could get more details on the ceiling but it looked odd in the dark area and this is what I believe is natural as possible. I was surprised there was not the same water flow as we have had a few nights of rain and the first shot no rain for about a month.

I goggled Natural Arch/Bridge and the falling water was blown out in all the shots I saw, even one taken by our local photo journo so I'm happy with the result.

I was at Springbrook National Park earlier this year visiting my sister. It's an amazing place. It's a pity - I don't remember seeing this arch

It's a tough shot due to the lighting. I think the outside light is perhaps a bit too bright and the waterfall is blown. There's not a great deal you can do though (aside from HDR) other than wait for more gentle light or maybe light which illuminates from the rear and not the front of the falls.

Thanks kimchi, that was my thoughts, I played around with levels, not very good skills at it but I did improve the dark rock areas. I should go back on a cloudy dull day and reshoot it, not many days like that here. I was at the end of the small cave as I could go within a fence, heavy fines apply for climbing the fence after a few people lost their lives swimming.

I'm not a fan of HDR as I like natural looks or close as possible to it. The arch is part of the park and about 30km from Springbrook. Guess you saw the Purlingbrook Falls, the canyon lookout and the falls at the end of that road.

Going back on a cloudy day is a good idea - the location has great potential!

A cloudy day, preferably after some rainfall would really bring the colour out of those trees, especially when a polarizer is used.

This would make a great HDR picture. I hope you'll get the chance one day to get back there and take many different exposures:]

Although not a fan of HDR I believe this shot would benefit from it because of the high contrasts in lighting. I plan to practice a few HDR shots then go back to the arch, it's only a one hour drive and we go regular to the national park and the arch is only 20km where we normally go.

I agree this could benefit from HDR or other methods of exposure blending. If you have adobe cameraRAW or lightroom try using the fill light slider to increase the light in the shadow areas, might help.

Very tough lighting conditions as mentioned, though if it was me and I had a tripod I would have been tempted to try a longer exposure shot of around 1-2 seconds to smooth out that waterfall a bit.

Added new photo at begining.
