I like this technique Evan. I think the trick, as Jeremy eluded to, is in the choice of an appropriate subject.

I don't see a whole lot of difference between Evan's post-processing (mirror) and yours (black fill, contrast etc.) aside from techniques chosen. You both process your shots to "make them something else"
You are both taking a picture and manipulating it later to suit your own needs/styles. It's only your choice of manipulation tools which differ.
The same argument could be leveled against street photographers who refuse to post-process any of their shots, citing the "unedited rawness" of the street.
Then they do a B&W conversion...
