Hi folks,

Couldn't quite bend this month's On Assignment theme of Translucence to this shot so here it is in the Natural Landscape section:

    .......................Willow

    Image
Here in the Cotswolds it was around -10°C at sunrise this morning and the hoar frost stayed with us all day. I find it hard to believe from the photograph but the lake above is completely frozen over. Only the largest of the old gravel pit lakes in the area have any open water at all so while the rivers are still clear the swans and other waterfowl are starting to have a bad time of it. :(
Camera Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
    Lens: EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM
    Image Date: 2010:12:07 09:45:10
    Focal Length: 47.0mm
    Aperture: f/8.0
    Exposure Time: 0.017 s (1/60)
    ISO equiv: 100
Polarising filter used and I've probably overdone the post-processing.
Bob.

Nice shot Bob. Must be a great place to get good landscape shots. I can imagine the refelection on a still summers evening. Brings on the song Gone fishing. Well done. :D

.
Thanks guys. Right place, right time and I had the camera with me. The 1920x1280 version, without the black frame, is now my current "screensaver".

Here's another song the lyrics of which start about twenty-five seconds into this YouTube video.
Out of Town - from the film "Charley Moon" (1956)

      Say what you will,
      The countryside is still
The only place where I could settle down
Troubles there are so much rarer
      Out of town

      Spring starts to spring
      The cuckoo starts to sing
A song to take the edge off winter's frown
And spring cleaning has a meaning
      Out of town

Up there the sun is a big yellow duster
      Polishing the blue, blue sky
With white fluffy clouds in a cluster
Hanging on a breeze to dry

      Trees everywhere
      With blossoms in their hair
And Mother Nature wears her newest gown
What I'd give once more to live
      Right out of town.
I don't remember the film but I do remember the song as the theme tune to a programme hosted by Jack Hargreaves called, yes - you've guessed it Out of Town (another YouTube link). 8)

Bob.

What a lovely colourful scene Bob, i also did not realised the lake was frozen until i read your comments below. Very nice, love the relections.

I used to watch out of town, Jack Hargreaves was quite a charactor. He also appeared in How.
Am i showing my age or what!

Hi Sue,

Definitely not. And don't forget that the best vintages improve with age.

Thanks for the kind comments. Looking at the version in this post I'm still of the opinion that I may have been a little generous with the Vibrance in Camera Raw. But oddly enough when I view the same image without the border and filling my monitor completely I'm more than happy with the result. Mind you, I do tend to process my landscapes as though they were to feature on calendars.

Bob.
