Camera Labs

This is an attempt to present the giving of shape to Goddess Durga who is the reigning deity during the biggest festival celebrated in Kolkata, Bengal, India.

Structures are made of straw and bamboo and coated with clay, layer by layer. Once the figure gets baked in sun, coats of paints are put on those and then ornamentation and final touches done.
Tried to capture the artists at work and the ambience/ environ in which this area Kumortuli thrives.

Very interesting collection, I like your work, personally I don't think B&W do the shots justice in the richly coloured environment, keep them coming.

The reason for most B&W shots is to keep the focus tied to that which I tried to put as subject. Colour might have provided more opportunity to the eye to wander away... may be.. that's how I felt.
Also B&W made me feel more like photogrpher
Shot most of the photos coloured with progress towards the final stage which really is colourful.
A small confession is required here - I am too new to D photography and know my limitations. Then again shooting handheld with FZ-35 in low light, was handicapped by ISO limits, so many photos are not sharp enough/ camera shake is evident. But could not resist posting them.
