I recently visited Los Angeles



We saw old-world necessities in our travels
(A view from the windows of a boat)


And the old became clear, and beautiful!


Even the mundane seemed new, and unique


and the fantastic became real


The young came along,


To see wonders


that many of us will never see in our own lives...

As it is the season of good will I will comment

I really liked it. I liked the way the images tell a story and I like the colours in most.

Did you use a polarizer in the first pic? If you did then LA must be really smoggy, you can still see haze in that one.

Where did you take the last pic and what are the little black dots?
I think this one needs the horizon leveling too.

Just my thoughts... keep it up

All straight from the camera, no PP and no filters. I wanted to use a polarizer for that LA shot actually... but did not have one.

LA is smoggy. especially as it nears dusk I guess... I do like the way the smog looks though, gives it all an atmosphere all its own.

That last shot was a fin whale going down for a deep dive, and the black dots are birds in the distance.

As the leveling, definitly agreed! Not sure if you have ever tried to shoot at 200mm on a boat in the ocean... not easy!

A great shot at downtown, hope you liked the city, I really did, I agree with you that its a bit smoggy, epecially if you observe the city from a distance!

Man i love LA!! I remember the big whale from the long beach aquarium, supprised you didnt get any sick sunset pics.

I just find it so hard to find a good sunset anywhere... and generally try looking at what the sunset is doing to things...

Here is small town before the ocean from Griffith


and a neat effect from the sunset (nearly)


And I can go find that traditional sunset over the open seas at 200mm for you...

Liking the second one. Maybe if it was straight and with 2 3rds of the picture being sunset or open space.

Actually, it is straight... the building has a slight slope. If you look at the main building it is 100% vertical and the horizon is level. I did debate if I should level it counter-effect the illusion or not because it is deceiving.
