 Post subject: Images on maps

Is anyone interested in putting their images up on a web site that also shows the location on a map?

I am thinking of creating a web site that will use and silverlight to do this which is something I have plenty of experience in.

The idea is that the combination or image, datetime, and location could mean you show the progress of a trip nicely. Images will pop up on the map with links to the larger res version. We and others have done this sort of thing for companies before using camera phones (with built in GPS), but the emphasis there was more the incdent rather than the image.

I know the D200 has a GPS, but for others we it would simply be a matter of clicking on the map to set the location, or searching by address/zip/postcode etc

Anyway I would be interested in anyones comments or thoughts on this, and whether it could be an interesting project for a photo sharing/social networking type web site?

Flickr allows you to tag a photo with a geographical location. People can then click on a location on the virtual map provided and view photos "geo-tagged" with that location. Have a look here.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware of that - thanks for the link.

It is a bit different to how I envisioned it though, and could be improved on I think (for one I find the Yahoo maps a bit clunky to work through, compared to live and google that is)

Anyone got any thoughts or comments on the flikr page or changes in how you would like this to work?

Hi Ian!

You sure know that goggle-earth has similar features to flickr. So perhaps not the full feature-set that you envisage.
Me, I have enough work to do to tag and sort my pics at my comp and on flickr. Some have location information but most of the time it is too tedious for me to pursue it any further: Too many meta-data to administer...
