I know they're aiming 50% in home market for hybrid camera, but not overseas.

It is possible to do so, because they are selling for cheaper price than Japanese cameras counterpart and there will be a nationalistic influence too.

For overseas, m43 might be a lot stronger, because their lenses collection are more complete and they can be interchangeable between brands.

I've been studying the sample pics and the threads on the Samsung NX10 around the web, and in a word, stunning.

The slow kit zoom lens is unfortunate only in its speed. I guess they couldn't really put a fast lens in the kit and keep the price low. But aside from that, this camera looks like a winner.

It has, most especially, eliminated any interest I had in micro 4/3rds.

Courtesy of a forum that shall not be named, here's the sample that convinced me. The Panasonic GF1 (a very nice micro 4/3rd camera) versus the Samsung NX10:

Hi folks,

A number of sites are also reporting Samsung's promise of more lenses for the NX camera. I can't find the press release on Samsung's own site yet but the lenses promised are:

  • 20mm f/2.8 Pancake
  • 60mm f/2.7 Macro

  • 18-200mm OIS f/3.5-6.3 Superzoom

Sony RX1R II. Olympus OM-D E-M1 + M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8, M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 + 1.4x T/C, Lumix 7-14mm f/4, Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH, M.Zuiko Digital 45mm 1:1.8
M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm 1:1.8, Leica D Vario-Elmar 14mm-150mm f/3.5 - f/5.6 ASPH.

That they aren't simply withdrawing the non-compact version of the 18-55mm, and making the compact 20-50 the standard kit lens, suggests that there will be a steep price increase for the added value of a shorter lens barrel. Maybe a hundred extra dollars? Otherwise, I don't think they'd bother having two nearly identical lenses in the first wave.

I wish they'd announce American prices on these things. Even the NX10 itself seems to only have a speculative price over at B&H. The suspense is intense.

I was hoping the 30mm pancake would be included in the kit for that price. It would have been a heck of a deal.

Now, not so much a deal. Still a camera worth getting due to that wonderful AMOLED screen on the back, but, not as much of a price-buster as I'd hoped.

The new rumor of the NX5 is interesting. It is rumored to be a hundred bucks cheaper than the NX10, and will omit the eyepiece hump, and have a regular LCD screen instead of the AMOLED. Possibly a cheaper version of the kit zoom, perhaps without stabilization. I'll miss the AMOLED screen on the back -- especially since the back is all the NX5 will have to compose one's shots -- but I like the idea of removing the hump, to more directly compete with the micro4/3rds.

I hope Samsung sends Gordon an NX10 to review!
