The Sony CZ 24-70mm f/2.8 is $ 1,749.99.

Their difference is not $650 dollars...

Sorry, I confused with Canon's which is only $560 better (= stays in pocket = whole new A200 Kit + Filter).

Guess the new-to-market comment is true. Maybe Sony will change.
Having another option to Nicanon© is always a blessing, just asking questions is all ...

The reason I think Sony's prices are high, is because 1) they're new(er) in the DSLR market and 2) they don't manufacture as many lenses as Nicanon© yet. The more lenses they make (so we have to start buying more) the less expensive manufacturing will be, so the prices could possibly go down.
Also keep in mind Cheezbrgr that the Zeiss 16-35mm f/2.8 is targeted at high-end professionals. They go for maximum quality and wouldn't really mind changing lenses (or they have multiple bodies). A 16-85mm lens you mentioned can never match the quality of shorter zooms like this new lens. The aperture would be smaller, and the final IQ wouldn't come close either.
