What suggestions do you have for memory cards for use with the A300.

You should probably get a minimum 10 Mb read/write speed CF card. Like Sandisk Ultra II or III. I have Sandisk Ultra II 4G and it works fine on my A200.

Depends on what you plan on doing sports and stuff faster card if you shoot jpeg you should be fine with 2gb if you shoot raw go for 4gb and up.

I have a Sony 8GB 300x card for my A700, and I must say I really like the comfort of having 8 gigabytes of memory. You won't have to worry about your memory card running out (unless your on a .. week holiday). The speed is not really neccessary, because the camera can not write at, in the 300x's case, 40MB/sec., but if you have a good card reader, you can copy images to your computer in no time, which is interesting too!
I'd say, look for something of 4GB or more, and speed isn't the most important factor!

On a recent walkabout, I managed to fill a 4GB card in a session And remember, I don't shoot in raw as standard. It was all jpegs! Ok, maybe most people wont take 1000 shots a time. But if you shoot raw, the number you can store will go down rapidly so I'd suggest 4GB as a minimum and higher if the cost isn't too much.

PS I bought the Sandisk Extreme IV, knowing it would probably be faster than the camera can write to it at. With hindsight, I kinda wish I went with the Extreme III and got more capacity instead.

Sandisk Extreme IV are, to my knowledge, the fastest cards money can buy. I don't think you will notice any difference if you shoot one frame at a time. A slow(er) card can hurt you in burst mode.

Dpreview states rather precise read/write speeds in their reviews, so if you have to know, you may want to take a peek in their reviews .

I have both memory stick (Sandisk Extreme III) and CF (Extreme IV) in my A700. The CF-card is little bit faster if I shoot in burst mode.

There all a much of a muchness really, Its just the size of the card that is the main point... an 8gb card will hold more photo's than a 4gb card but at the expense of cost.

I have a 4gb card and i can take about 700 photo's of top quality Jpeg images on my sony a100. Perfectly adiquate for a days outing, but if i was going away on holiday or something I would have to take my laptop with me to upload the photo's and wipe. Im thinking of getting another 8gb card so i dont have to take my macbook with me everywhere
