That is so ignorant. While scene modes are pretty much just for novices, LV is very useful to macro and product photographers for precise manual-focusing. To say that it's an "amateur gimmick" and has "no place on a serious camera" is just ignorant. Just because you don't need it, doesn't mean it's useless.

I totally agree with you domk275. In my opinion LV is a must on any dslr camera. I would also say that a tilting screen complements LV.

Why would AA batteries in a grip be a good idea? Whats wrong with double li-ion battery grips?

There is nothing wrong with li-ion battery but incase if the li-ion batteries are run out its energy don't have enough time to charge it somewhere with the convenience of AA Battery slot just simply buy the AA Batteries from the nearest store. Sadly for the A700 model doesn't have this feature ):
