Hi all,
This should be an easy one for those who know more than I.

I currently have a Sony a65 and am thinking of moving up to the a99.

Since the lenses I have for the a65 are (I believe) for cropped sensor cameras, I assume that when I attempt to use them on the a99, the corners of photos will potentially be black because those lenses wont fully "cover" the larger sensor?

Just trying to figure out how big of an investment this move will entail....

(Lenses I have: Sony DT 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 (Zoom Lens0, Tamron SP 10-24MM F/3.5-4.5 Di II (Wide angle), Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX (Macro).

The lenses would indeed leave the corners of the image black (see an example here). If there is no possibility of upgrading your lenses right away (the A99 is not cheap), keep in mind you could always resort to cropping your images to get rid of the black areas. Another option would be to invest in a prime lens, like a 50mm f/1.4 (which I believe any photographer should have anyway), and gradually build up your gear from there (or just stick with the fifty ).

If you're looking to take the plunge all at one, and splurge on a FF camera and a set of FF lenses to go with it, be prepared to make quite an investment.

Thanks -- glad I understand what I'm (potentially) getting in to!

I planned on embarking on a similar acquisition journey, but did it the other way around. Got a 70-20mm f/2.8 first, and then a Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4. Ended up liking the 50mm so much that I bought a 28mm f/2.8, and 35mm f/1.4, and hardly ever used the zoom lenses anymore. It's mostly because it took Sony quite long to replace the A900 at the time that I started thinking about what it would be like to use a Leica. The lust for one snowballed on from there, so I never made the move to full frame with Sony. Glad I jumped ship to Leica though...
