I bought the SX40 a few months ago as a replacement for my Canon S5IS. The SX40 takes great pictures. It was a real treat to photograph a swarm of bees in my neighbors yard from fifteen feet away and then immediately show my six year old daughter their wings silhouetted against the sky on the LCD display. And the SX40 can autofocus on things the S5 never could. But I have been surprised that I do not enjoy using the SX40 as much as I liked my Canon S5 just because the SX40 feels so cheap and plastic like. Also, the SX40 LCD is not as good as a lot of other cameras have, for instance my HX9V. I am actually looking to buy something else this month before summer vacations start. I am thinking more along the lines of a Sony NEX however.
