It has a jack for mini HDMI. So, assuming I were to get such a cable as this one http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... ab#reviews would I be able to record off of the screen?

No, not really. The data is coming from the other side of the cable :D That means you can watch your videos and view your shots taken with you NEX on a TV.
