I had my first DSLR for Christmas which was the A100. I bought the camera for the exact same reason as you said, the IS. I'm very pleased with it and you will not be disappointed. I am unsure if it is worth spending the extra cash on an A200 though but being an A100 owner I wont be upgrading to the A200 as it just does not have enough new features to make it worth it.

Look the 8th post of this link...

Here is make a comparative beetwen A200 and A700 to ISO 800 and 1600.

The A200, although anybody say that it is a A100+, this have the best noise level in this group of DSLR and just for 700$ with one lens...

That's good news, so the noise reduction facility is effective!
I, however, already made my descision and got the A200 yesterday.
And untill now, I´m very happy with it. Today I´m going to try it out outside for the first time.. :D

Will be interesting to know the AF speed.

I had heard that AF in A200 is like to the A700, about 1.7X better than A100...
