I have a new A55 and I do fine with it in manual modes but when I'm trying to get a quick shot and throw it in to into Auto mode I'm getting images that are way too blue.

Any thoughts what would be causing the Auto mode to do this? Any corrections I can do to the mode?

That's a white balance issue. Do you have any idea what your white balance was set on? Typically I always shoot my WB on auto, and then fix it in post processing. Do you typically post process all you photos or just take them as is?

I usually shoot in Manual so I adjust my own white balance in the camera. Typically I don't have to do any adjustments afterwards, just when I put it on auto and get these types of images.

I've never had a problem like this with my G10 (which I love).

Yeah, right on... lesson learned I suppose - don't use auto

For some reason, only P&S cameras work well on auto. I don't see why auto WB doesn't work well in auto mode though.

The A55 should not be producing these types of results in auto-mode and those shots are entirely too blue.

Unless it's a settings issue, there is something wrong with your camera. Sure, the lighting is maybe just a little tricky because of the stronger light in the background and the largish white surfaces, but this doesn't fool any digital camera I've ever tried and this latest-greatest offering from SONY is getting rave reviews everywhere.

That's the whole point of auto modes: they are supposed to achieve some pretty darn good results and for the most part, cameras do. This is decidedly not the case here.

Take it back to the shop and get it fixed - auto-modes are there to be useful.
