I think the wrong parts are emphasised:

Quote:
In addition to the current DSLR-A230, A330, A380, A500, A550, A850 and A900 digital SLR cameras, the following concept camera bodies and interchangeable lenses will be exhibited. Current interchange lenses, including Carl Zeiss® and G lens products will also be on display.

* Concept model of an ultra-compact interchangeable lens digital camera system that packs the quality of a DSLR camera in an extraordinarily small body, along with interchangeable lenses
* Mid-range concept camera for advanced users (a successor to the α700) as well as concept mainstream models
* Prototype of a Super Telephoto Lens (500mm F4 G) with class-leading optical performance
* Prototype of a Distagon T 24mm F2 ZA SSM, new Carl Zeiss wide angle lens for superior shots of landscapes and sweeping vistas

My translation: Still no A700 replacement you can buy any time soon. Or anything else new for that matter. At least they're showing what they're going to do, but they sure are taking their time over it.

Given the use of the terms concept and prototype, does that mean the A700 replacement is still quite a way away?

Hi primitive,

I think your post is actually off-topic for this thread as the link is to a video about Samsung products and this is the Sony section. :P

Hi OneGuy,

Nice catch as the page linked to isn't actually available from the regular menus yet. But it will be a disappointment if all we see from Sony are concepts rather than soon to ship products.

Bob.

I didn't like the press release. "concept camera" and no name? Starting to look a little shaky now. Let's see if something better comes up officially around 9 AM (PST)

I didn't mean to be off-topic. I thought they were going to post videos from other manufacturers. I might have been misled, but they did say that. I doubt anyone can find any Sony only coverage of PMA, but if anyone does, please post.

I also noticed the concept and prototype statements, but I hope its concept and prototype you can pick up and use. If its still behind glass (which means no specs!), then its probably Photokina before we see something and then probably December before you can buy anything.

But, to be fair, very few of us actually expected the A7xx at PMA, since all previous reports (up to last week) said that only the new mirrorless system would be on display. So, if we see anything, then that is probably better than what we had hoped (since we hoped for nothing :D). The posting did sound very optimistic though (they didn't try to play down its presence, which would be the more logical thing to do if you didn't have anything worth showing), and it seems as though they are alluding to a definitive product replacement, so we might see a functional camera.

As for the lenses, I can't imagine how much those things are gonna cost :-), but its a step in the right direction!

@Popo: Any chance at coming back to the Alpha mount?

Definitely Off-Topic (?): Rumuors have it that the D900 will be out as the replacement for the D700. Is Nikon going to steal Sony's thunder if they make such a big announcement? That's probably one of the worse things that could happen, because Sony needs some solid attention from the DSLR press community, especially if the A7xx doesn't turn out to be all that great when compared to something like the 7D.

They don't mention A450 anywhere in the press release, so it could be an older draft of press release.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the A450 not released in all regions? The press release is possibly more US centric, where I recall discussion (not official) saying the A450 wasn't going to be released in the US. As such there wouldn't be a need to mention it.

As for me returning to alpha mount, with each passing day it is becoming less likely. While I remain positive on the A550 spec, the A700 hole is now too big for too long, and the existing FF offerings are no longer attractive due to their earlier price rises which did not affect CaNikon.

Having said that, the E-mount sounds very promising if rumours hold true they've managed to get phase detect AF in main sensor. That would blow existing EVIL cams out of the water.

Here's a link to the Sony PMA 2010 Virtual Press Kit. Seems to confirm the "concept" model reports above.

They have shown some mock-up models to keep the present alpha users happy :D ...hahaha.Bjorn might know something but he is not telling us. Come on Bjorn, please unwrap the truth!!! :D :)

It's over? Very much a "is that it?" feeling here...
