im new to all this. the manual says i can go from very fast shutter speed down to 30secs. the on screen numbers showing the shutter speed i cannot understand. it does not come up 1/4000 etc. it just shows numbers e.g : 1 or 5 or 10 or 30 etc. without the " symbol. even on the manual setting i can not seem to see it say 30" , just a load of numbers again..

please excuse my dimness. im desperate to get out there in the night and snap some decent pics. any help with this would be gratful received.

Hi sisiggs, don't worry, most cameras are like that.

If you see a normal number, it actually means 1 / that number.

So 30 means 1/30.

If you see double quotes, that means seconds. So 30" means 30 seconds.
