I recently bought a Sony a300, and I'm now thinking of buying a flash. But I don’t know which one I should choose and why.

Do you have to take one of Sony of can you take one of a 3rd party brand.
I haven’t got to much money to spend so what would be smart to buy?

I haven't looked at 3rd party, but do have the Sony F42 and can recommend it. It can be remotely fired by the camera as well as when on it, and has plenty of tilt and bounce possible. The lower flash in the range lacks a lot of power and features for not much saving in cost.

With Popo, the f42 is a great flash.

Be sure to test the flash at the store if possible since some of the flashes seem to have a seating problem on the A300/A700.

Just save if you have to, once you don't have the seating problem, you won't regret it!
