Nice find, but a month away! I hope they pre-announce before that...

I'm sailing on the Canon ship, but I'm not dogmatic. I can switch systems at anytime or I could even invest in dual systems if I forget about paying for a mortgage ....

Yep, that is over a month away... However, the Sony guy I got my info from said we'd know more about the A850 and A5x0 before the beginning of September, so a pre-announcements sounds likely to me.

Never mind a month, over on dyxum there's posts that the Sony HK site posted the manual! Can't download without a Sony HK login, but the manual has been reposted and I'm grabbing it now.

So far posts confirm it is FF, 3fps, lesser viewfinder compared to A900.

Edit: 24.6MP
98% coverage viewfinder 0.74x magnification

You guys are awesome. How do you guys find info so quickly, seriously? Is sleep optional?

I'm just doing some power slacking before going back to doing more IR testing :D

Going through the manual right now... although as I'm not intimately familiar with the A900 I might not spot the differences...

Done first pass through. Doesn't seem to be any more differences apart from the reduced continuous speed meaning you get more raw shots before the buffer fills up, although interestingly there is now a limit to jpeg - side effect of reduced processing power?

No new features. No live view. No video. No GPS. No coffee machine.

So two questions to go - when, and how much is it?

Interesting, maybe this is the game changer and FF is the way to go.
As prices go down (hopefully) there will the FF photographers and the novices/beginners?. A two class system.

That sounds promising. It'll be interesting to see what price it debuts at. Right now, I'm thinking those specs make it sound like a Canon 5D Mk II competitor but then we already have the A900 in that price bracket. Is this going to sell for Canon 50D/Sony A700 prices?

That would be totally AWESOME!

At the same price, I'd take the 5D2 over the A900 any day. But, assuming it is cheap enough, I'd get the A850.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it'll be at 50D prices. I'd look more towards D300 level, or D300s... which is still cheap for a FF.

Sure wouldn’t hurt to see a FF price war, driving prices down and quality up.
I still don’t care about LV or Video

You didn't say no to a coffee machine though? :D

As I currently have the A350+50D for live view and E-P1 for video, I'm willing to overlook their absence on the A850 (at the right price).
