i just bought the Hoya Inrfared R72 filter for my k10d and so far everything i take sucks its damn near black
i saw a bunch of photos with this exact same setup i have
and they turned out amazing
thats why i bought this filter

so what am i doing wrong?

I don't know how sensitive the camera is to IR, but in general you do need much longer exposures than normal. Do experiment with that.

Even then, it isn't over. IR photography generally takes post-processing to give a pleasing final output. There's assorted guides around the net if you want to search around for them. Note there isn't a single "correct" way to process IR output so the choice is open.

Canon DSLRs: 7D2, 7D1, 5D2, 1D, 600D, 450D full spectrum, 300D IR mod
Lenses: EF 35/2, 85/1.8, 135/2+SF, 70-300L, 100-400L, 100L, MP-E 65, EF-S 10-18, 15-85
3rd party: Zeiss 2/50 makro, Samyang 8mm fisheye, Sigma 50/1.4A, 150 macro, 120-300 f/2.8 OS
Compacts: Sony HX9V, Fuji X100.

damn i was hoping that it was it was gonna be simple

i thought it was a snap of the photo and thats it

so here is my lesson learned
review and study something before you buy it

i just saw these amazing photos and withing 10 mins i ordered the filter

now ill have to go out and buy so software photo editor
since i dont currently own anything like that
