Post subject: Pentax Lens with others
PostPosted: Sat May 03, 2008 3:42 pm
Hello everyone,

I just wanna know this myth is true (please let it be a myth!! :P) or mayb this only happens in my country :(

Apparently, I've been told that Pentax lenses are more expensive then Nikon lenses or some other rival lenses on average. Is this true??

One of the reason I bought the K10D is the internal anti-shake. Though I know it does not work as well as the Olympus' system. However, I still think it is rather amusing to know that though Pentax does not need VR or SR in their lense, their lense are still more expensive. Examples include the 18-300mm

Is this true from wherever all of you came from?
Mind sharing,

Thanks alot,

Hi Xnightz, you can find out exactly how much they cost in the USA and UK by using our Pricegrabber services - which also helps support this site...

Nope. Pentax lenses over here are cheaper and there is no 18-300. 28-300 maybe?

closest to the 18-300 would be the 18-250...

and i don't find that pentax lenses are more expensive either...

however, if new lenses are above your budget, you can always go second hand... lots of gems out there

Hey graham, nope, the price they offer are more expensive for some reason, it is either that or it does not differ that much. there's no significance :)

I suppose it would depend on who you ask. If you look at, whose prices I find to be around street value or cheaper, you will find that Pentax lenses are usually cheaper wherever a comparison can be made.

For example:

Pentax 16-50 - RM2650
Nikkor 17-55 - RM4795
Canon 17-55(IS) - RM3550

Pentax 50mm f/1.4 - RM695
Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 - RM1150
Canon 50mm f/1.4(USM) - RM1350

Pentax 12-24 - RM2559
Nikkor 12-24 - RM3359
Canon 10-22(USM) - RM2650

Pentax 100mm Macro - RM1669
Nikkor 105mm Macro(AF-S VR) - RM2695
Canon 10mm Macro(USM) - RM2195

You may however find that some third-party lenses for the Pentax mount cost more than those for the Nikon-mount. I guess this is because they
want to retain their profit margins despite the lower demand.

Note: Any information in brackets indicates that the aforementioned lens has a noteworthy feature not found in the other lenses.

Just one point :) There are currently various lines of lenses by Pentax: DA, DA* and Limited, with different levels of quality and different price points.

I don't know the lines from other manufacturers.

Best regards,
