Camera Labs

Hello everyone! I am from Guam and I'm just getting into the DSLR side of photography (My camera right now is a Sony DSC-P8 with 3.2MP ).

The camera selection is fairly limited here in Guam and most are in the expensive range. The only camera I have found so far in my budget is the Pentax *ist DL ($500; to give you a comparison here, a Canon Rebel XS is $733! ).

My concern is if the Pentax *ist DL is still a good camera to go with.

Any comments appreciated!

The Canon is over priced, and IMHO I think the Pentax is too. Having said that, the *ist DL is a very good camera and it'll shine if you attach a decent lens to it.

Those prices are so wrong...
A XS shouldn't be more than 500$ second hand.
And the *ist DL should be about 300$.

Last week Best Buy had ist's @ $180 factory refurbished by Pentax.

If those are the prices I'd be seeing............. I'd move

i will agree with everyone on the expense here on Guam. i have yet to visit a couple more stores and see what are available

The *ist DL is a very good camera to start dSLR, but USD 500 seems excessive.

For USD 500, you can get a K-m and 2 lenses 18-55mm and 50-200mm.

Pay a special attention to Pentax bundles (camera + lenses) : they offer great value.
