hi, i want to ask all of k20d owners..

in continous shooting my k20d does: 12 jpegs then stops or 8 raws then stops.
is there something i do not know?
i performed the tests in Tv mode set shutter speed at 1/80 f/2.8..

any comments?

Just a couple of questions about the problem you're experiencing...

• When you say the K20D stops, does it really stop and shut down or does it pause for a while and then resume shooting?
• Which SD card are you using?

I experienced the same with my K10D with a pause every 6 shots, as for the the ducks swimming.

I changed my SD card for a faster one and get rid of the problem. See the result with the wave sequence

well it's not that bad, that it would shut down.. it simply make a pause and then continues to shoot much slower..
but then it becomes not a not useful fps.. 1.5 - 2 fps..

SD card that i use is an SDHC 4gb..
but I will experiment with others..

i also realized, that when i change Jpeg compression from 5 stars to 3, 2, 1..
the number of shots increases.. when using 1 star 14mgpx files continuous shooting lasts for 19 shots..

It's the 'buffer': the memory images are stored after they are captured but before they are written on the memory card. As the buffer size is physically constant* it's normal for large RAW files or fine JPEGs to fill it up, at which point your continuous shooting speed will choke down. As you saw for yourself, increasing JPEG compression yields smaller files, which can flush through the buffer much easily and thus, the speed doesn't suffer much. A faster memory card helps: think of this as a hole at the bottom of the pool: the larger the hole, the faster the water drains down.

*Nikon managed to 'expand' the buffer on the D3 via a firmware upgrade. I simply don't know how they pulled it off without adding additional physical memory, but I think it might be some sort of read/write optimization.

Yes, it could be. But changing the SD card is worth a try.

In my case, the K10D buffer remained unchanged, but the new SDHC-card SanDisk Ultra II solved the problem.
