Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you

I purchased a Fujifilm F50fd digital camera yesterday, after reading good reviews on Camera Labs. Got home, fully charged the battery and started snapping away. I downloaded the software onto my Macbook Pro to view the photos. I must say I was very dissapointed with the quality. The seem very grainy and lacking sharpness. I have switched the camera to various different modes, but the results are all dissapointing - indoors and outdoors, day and night shots.

I normally use a Canon EOS 400D SLR, but wanted something a bit more compact for day to day photos.

Please help, thanks

I've never used one so I don't really know, but it's possible that what you're seeing is just the difference between SLRs and compacts, and that there's not much you can do.

Maybe you could post some examples so we can see what you mean?

Could you post a sample image - or link to one - so we can see?

Maybe the ISO is set to Auto and it's gone for a big ISO because the conditions are dark. Try manually fixing the ISO at 100 or 200 ISO when shooting under brighter conditions.
